Website migration: what to expect

How we move your website to Webmart hosting with as little downtime as possible.

What we need from you

  • Access to your current host: cPanel login, or FTP and database details. A full backup file also works.
  • Access to your domain, or permission to transfer it.
  • Any logins your site depends on, such as the WordPress admin.

How it works

  1. Plan: we agree a date, and check your site’s size and requirements, such as the PHP version.
  2. Copy: we copy your files and databases to your new Webmart hosting.
  3. Test: we check the site on our server before anything changes for your visitors.
  4. Switch: we point your domain to Webmart. Visitors move across over the next few hours as DNS propagates.
  5. Secure: we confirm SSL is active, and you check the site.

During the switch

  • Avoid editing the website, publishing posts or taking orders from the moment we copy until we confirm the switch. Changes made on the old server in that time won’t be carried across.
  • If your website and email are with the same old host, we’ll plan both together so email isn’t interrupted. See Email migration.
