Which .bw domains can I register?

The .bw extensions available, and the naming rules for them.

Botswana domains are managed by BOCRA (Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority). Domains are registered at the second level, under these extensions:

Extension Typically used by
.co.bw Companies, businesses and individuals. The most popular choice.
.org.bw Non-profit organisations, NGOs, societies and churches
.net.bw Network and internet-related organisations
.ac.bw Academic institutions such as schools, colleges and universities

Naming rules

  • Letters a–z, numbers 0–9 and hyphens - only. No spaces or special characters.
  • It can’t start or end with a hyphen.
  • The name part can be up to 63 characters.
  • Domains aren’t case-sensitive: MyCompany.co.bw and mycompany.co.bw are the same domain.

Who should be the registrant?

The registrant is the legal owner of the domain. Register it in the name of your business or organisation, with an email address you control long-term, not a staff member’s personal address or a developer’s. The registrant email is where BOCRA sends activation and transfer emails.
